Gatineau

Gatineau is a city located in the southwest of the Canadian province of Quebec, on the banks of the Ottawa River (and near its mouth on the St. Lawrence River).

The third city with the largest number of inhabitants of the French-speaking province of Quebec. For its population is after Montreal and the provincial capital Quebec, but above Sherbrooke, Saguenay (formerly Chicoutimi-Jonquière), and Trois-Rivières, among others.

Located opposite the Canadian capital Ottawa, together constitute a conurbation whose population amounts to more than one million people, of which 277 700 are inhabitants of Gatineau. Formerly this conurbation was known as Ottawa-Hull, however today it is called Ottawa-Gatineau.

A number of federal and provincial government offices are located in Gatineau, due to its proximity to the national capital, and its status as the main town of the Outaouais region of Quebec.
